ADR Driver Certificates are valid for 5 years, and undertaking ADR driver refresher training means you can stay updated with all of the latest regulations surrounding hazardous and dangerous goods driving regulations.

Drivers are able to refresh their ADR at any time in the last 12 months.

An ADR Refresher course is shorter than the initial 5 Day ADR Full Driving Certificate programme.

However most drivers currently opt for the longer initial courses to gain as many Driver CPC hours as possible.

The ADR Driver Refresher Training course is 3 days and includes the following modules:

During the core module you’ll get a complete overview of the loading and unloading of dangerous goods, making sure you follow loading security protocol, as well as basic firefighting, emergency first aid, and emergency procedures when dealing with tank containers.

There are various types of tanks a driver may come across and some of these include Road Tankers, Tanks that are de-mountable, portable tanks for use on construction and excavation sites, and MEGCs (Multiple Element Gas Containers)

Anybody transporting dangerous goods in package format will need this ADR training module as a basic part of the course. The types of materials carried include acetone, adhesives, paints, gasoline, perfume, ethanol, methanol and some pesticides with flammable solvents.

Class 2 gases are identified as compressed gas, liquified gas, which could be either low pressure or high pressure, as well as refrigerated.

Also included in the class 2 family of gases are dissolved gas, aerosol dispensers, non pressurized gases (which are subject to special requirements), as well as chemicals under pressure and absorbed gases.

Class 5.1 Oxidizing substances are those that can decompose quickly. These can release oxygen or oxidizing substances that can quickly become flammable.

Class 5.2 Are organic peroxides which can be very unstable materials. This means they can become extremely flammable in certain situations, including under extreme heat.

Class 6 are primarily made up of biohazard material. This includes pathogens and other potential diseases. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and different types of parasites fall under the Class 6 Banner.

Class 8 covers the area of corrosive substances. These are substances that can react to being exposed to water or air.

There are 11 different classes of corrosive substance which will be covered in class 8

Class 9 is a general category which like Class 8 has 11 different sections. These are particles and substances that while in transport can present various dangers.
