The Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) is an qualification required by professional lorry and bus/coach drivers.
It has been brought it as part of an EU Directive in order to promote high standards of training and ultimately improve our roads.
The Driver CPC became effective on:
- 10th September 2008 for PCV (bus/coach) drivers.
- 10th September 2009 for LGV (lorry) drivers.
Professional drivers must now hold a DCQ (Driver Qualification Card) to show evidence they have completed the Driver CPC. This is done through carrying out the following steps:
New Drivers (Passed after the above dates)To gain the Driver CPC, you will need to complete the Initial Driver CPC.To keep the Driver CPC valid, you will then need to complete the Periodic Driver CPC.
Already have your licence? (Passed before the dates above)To gain the Driver CPC, you will need to complete the Periodic Driver CPC.
