DGSA CONSULTANCY

Who needs to have an appointed and accredited DGSA?
Any person, company or entity who is dealing with the transportation of dangerous goods by road, rail or inland waterway must appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor, whether that be an internal employee or an external consulting company.
It is important to note that any organisation that moves, transports, packs, fills, loads, unloads or does any type of consignment of dangerous goods on a regular basis is responsible to follow this government directive.

Who should an employer appoint as a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor?
An employer has two main choices and that is either an employee of the company or a consulting company that specialises in DGSA compliance. For many companies this comes down to cost. Many companies hire an external DGSA that provides the legal knowledge and accreditation required under UK law, but at the same time uses the same company to train and certificate one of their own employees so that a transition can be made, and you as a company have your own DGSA going forward.
The Dangerous Goods Safety Advisors role is a time consuming role, particularly for larger fleets and companies.
How can Keep Legal help with your DGSA needs?
Keep It Legal can help in one of two ways:
DGSA Consultancy
Keep It Legal can act as your DGSA allowing you to operate without having to train somebody in-house. As your DGSA we will conduct the necessary annual audits as well as offer advise on how to transport the hazardous goods legally and safely.
We can offer to be your DGSA on for 6-months, a year or just for a few months while you get someone else trained or while you see a particular contract through.
DGSA Training
Alternatively, if you do wish to appoint an internal member of staff as your DGSA, Keep It Legal also offers the courses for them to be in the best position to pass the SQA examinations. As part of the course we will also book your examinations and order the official books you will need. For more information on our training, see DGSA Training.
